Kim Hale Reveals How Self-Advocacy Landed Her a Major HomeGoods Commercial and Times Square Billboard
Kim Hale, known for her appearances on 'Dance Moms', recently shared a compelling story on the 'Leave It On The Dance Floor' podcast about how she secured a significant national commercial for HomeGoods. Despite initially being denied a self-tape audition for a role requiring a '50+ white woman who can do hip-hop,' Hale took an unconventional approach. According to Hale, her agents at the time did not submit her for the self-tape. Undeterred, she decided to send her hip-hop dance videos directly to the commercial's choreographer. This bold move paid off, as the choreographer was impressed and ensured she got an audition. Upon arriving on set, Hale was informed by the head of HomeGoods that the casting director had been fired for not pushing her through for the self-tape. The commercial ultimately led to a national campaign, including a print ad and a prominent billboard in Times Square. Hale's story underscores the importance of self-advocacy and perseverance in pursuing career opportunities, even when facing initial setbacks.
