Kazakhstan Tightens Housing Allowance Rules: 8-Year Limit, 90-Square-Meter Cap
Kazakhstan Implements Stricter Housing Allowance Rules for Law Enforcement and Military Personnel Starting July 1st, 2025, Kazakhstan's law enforcement and military personnel will face significant changes to their housing allowances. New regulations limit state-funded rental assistance to a maximum of eight years and a maximum area of 90 square meters for the entire family. These measures, announced by the Mažilis, aim to reduce government spending by over 26 billion tenge. "These changes are designed to optimize the use of public funds and ensure greater efficiency in providing housing support," explained a Mažilis representative. The new rules also prohibit the use of funds for home repairs or renting from relatives. Additionally, only one spouse is eligible for the allowance if both are employed in law enforcement or the military. All rental agreements must now be officially registered, adding another layer of transparency and accountability. While the government aims to curtail unnecessary expenditures, the impact on those affected remains to be seen. Further analysis will be needed to assess the long-term effects of these new regulations on the lives of Kazakhstani servicemen and women.
