Belgrade, Serbia Belgrade's annual Beer Fest, a prominent fixture in the city's summer calendar, has reportedly experienced exceptionally low attendance this year, as evidenced by a widely circulated online video. The footage, captured at night, depicts a largely deserted festival ground with amusement rides and attractions mostly unlit and devoid of visitors. Only a handful of security personnel and staff were visible. The video's author, identified as Loća, declared, "Beer Fest has failed," underscoring the striking absence of the usual crowds. The recording pans across the empty fairground, showcasing dormant rides, including a "Kamikaze" attraction that the author noted was "not even lit up." Public reaction to the video has been swift, with many social media users speculating on the reasons behind the apparent low turnout. One commenter, who claimed to have attended recently, remarked, "I was at the festival last night and I think it's not like it used to be. Prices have gone up a lot, they only have one beer, Nektar. Beer Fest used to be where you could try other beers that aren't usually found in stores." Another user suggested a political dimension, stating, "This is because of the stupid situation in Serbia, people deprived themselves of fun." Others pointed to the cost, with one comment reading, "It failed because of the hosts' greed, crisis everywhere. People won't pay 400 dinars for beer..." However, some comments offered alternative explanations. One user clarified, "This is the children's festival, Beer Fest is on the other side; they separated it this year because the children's festival lasts until September 10th." This suggests a potential misinterpretation of the video's specific location within the broader festival area. Regardless, the visual evidence of an empty fairground has ignited considerable discussion about the event's current state and broader societal issues in Serbia.
