Tromsø, Norway – A recent incident outside a local restaurant in Tromsø has sparked concern and highlighted potential cultural differences in emergency response. A restaurant worker, who wishes to remain anonymous, recounted a distressing event where an elderly woman suffered an epileptic seizure, fell, and sustained a head injury directly in front of the establishment. According to the worker, she and her boss immediately rushed to assist the injured woman, who was bleeding from her forehead. However, their attempts to secure professional medical help were met with an unexpected reaction from other bystanders. When asked to call an ambulance, two women seated on the terrace reportedly refused, stating that the injured woman had expressed a desire not to have an ambulance called, despite her clearly disoriented and injured state. The restaurant worker expressed profound shock and frustration at this response. "She was bleeding, clearly not well, and they said she didn't want an ambulance," the worker stated. "It was a cultural shock. I thought, don't you have any humanity? She needed help." Ultimately, the restaurant worker and her boss took it upon themselves to call for emergency services. An ambulance arrived shortly after, and paramedics attended to the woman, who required stitches for her forehead wound. The incident has left the worker questioning the level of immediate assistance and empathy in public situations in Norway, particularly when individuals are in distress and unable to make sound decisions for themselves.
