Makarska, Croatia – In an early morning initiative, Makarska municipal services have begun clearing local beaches of personal items left overnight by beachgoers. The operation, documented in a recent video, shows workers systematically collecting towels, inflatable mattresses, and other belongings from the shoreline and shaded areas. According to Makarski Komunalac, the municipal service responsible for the city of Makarska, this action is part of an ongoing effort to ensure beaches remain clean and accessible for everyone. "Redarstvo and municipal workers are on another morning mission for tidy beaches, clean and accessible to all," stated the official account. "Thank you to everyone who supports order." The initiative has sparked considerable debate among the public. While many commend the efforts, with one commenter stating, "Bravo guys, that's how it's done in civilized countries," others express frustration. Some tourists reported difficulties finding space, even when arriving early, due to items being left overnight. "I was in Tučepi recently, I woke up at 4 in the morning to find a spot. But when I got to the beach, all the shady spots were taken," shared one individual, suggesting that all items left overnight should be removed. Conversely, some argue that leaving a towel for a short period should not be an issue, questioning the necessity of such strict enforcement.
