KL's New 'Plogging' Program: Fitness and Environmental Cleanup Combined
Kuala Lumpur Launches City-Wide Plogging Initiative Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – In a move to promote environmental awareness and a healthy lifestyle, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has launched a city-wide plogging initiative. This program, announced by Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, will see plogging activities taking place across all DBKL branches in 11 parliamentary constituencies throughout 2025. Plogging, a combination of jogging or hiking and picking up litter, is gaining popularity globally as a way to improve both personal fitness and environmental cleanliness. The DBKL initiative aims to engage the community in environmental conservation efforts while promoting physical activity. "This is a signature program for DBKL in 2025," said Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, emphasizing the importance of the initiative. Muhammad Afiq Irfan ShahruL Asmadi, a participant in the plogging event, shared his experience: "This is my first time plogging, and I didn't know what it was before. It opened my eyes to community activities that contribute to the environment." Another participant, Muhammad Aidil Hakimi Mohamed Fairuz, added, "It's fun because while exercising, we're also cleaning up our surroundings." The program's success will depend on community participation and consistent efforts to improve the environment. The initiative's focus on involving schoolchildren also shows a commitment to long-term environmental stewardship. The DBKL's plogging initiative serves as a model for other cities looking to combine environmental responsibility with community engagement and healthy living.
