Malaysia: MCMC Investigates Social Media Influencer Over Post About PKR Leader
Malaysia: Social Media Influencer Under Investigation by MCMC Kuala Lumpur, May 17, 2025 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is currently investigating social media influencer Aliff Ahmad. The investigation stems from a post Aliff made concerning PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching confirmed the MCMC's authority to summon individuals for questioning during investigations. "The agency has the right to call anyone to assist in investigations," she stated. Aliff Ahmad was summoned to the MCMC on April 25th to provide a statement regarding a Facebook post. This action follows a search of Aliff's premises on the previous Saturday, believed to be connected to an investigation into content touching on the sensitive 3R issues: race, religion, and royalty. The MCMC has released a statement confirming the ongoing investigation and the pursuit of further statements. This investigation highlights the MCMC's active role in regulating social media content and underscores the sensitivity surrounding discussions of race, religion, and royalty in Malaysia.
