Sun Bear Intrudes into Home in Pekan, Pahang A 60-kilogram sun bear caused a stir in Taman Tanah Putih, Pekan, Pahang, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, when it broke into a residential home. The incident prompted a swift response from authorities. According to Kapten P.A Ahmad Azmi Nafiah of the Pekan District Civil Defence Department, a call was received at 8:36 AM regarding the sun bear's presence. "We received an emergency call about the sun bear," Kapten Nafiah stated. A team from the Civil Defence Department, along with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, responded and successfully captured the animal. The sun bear, a pet, had apparently escaped from its owner's care. It was tranquilized and transported to the Kuantan Wildlife Department for further assessment. The incident highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need for coexistence between humans and wildlife. The quick response and collaboration between agencies ensured a safe resolution to the situation.
