Perak to Study Elephant Behavior Amidst Rising Human-Elephant Conflicts
IPOH, Perak – The Perak state government is taking steps to address the growing number of conflicts between humans and elephants, particularly along the East-West Highway (JRTB) connecting Gerik and Jeli. The issue has become increasingly prevalent in recent times, with elephants frequently crossing the highway in large groups. Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, stated that the government will collaborate with the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) to find solutions. "We need to study their behavior," said Datuk Seri Saarani, "because lately we've seen them crossing the highway in groups." The plan includes conducting a comprehensive study of elephant behavior to understand the reasons behind this change in their patterns. This proactive approach by the Perak government demonstrates a commitment to finding a balance between human development and wildlife conservation.
