AGC Rejects Mahathir's Claims on Anwar Ibrahim's Pardon: Details of 2018 Meeting Revealed
Malaysia's Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has issued a statement refuting claims made by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad regarding the 2018 pardon of current Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Mahathir had alleged irregularities in the pardon process. The AGC, however, insists that the pardon was granted in accordance with established legal procedures. To support their statement, the AGC cited a Pardon Board meeting held on May 16th, 2018, at the Istana Negara. This meeting, chaired by the then-Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, was attended by Mahathir in his capacity as Prime Minister at the time. The AGC's statement directly addresses Mahathir's concerns, providing a detailed account of the meeting and the due process followed. This clarification aims to resolve the ongoing public debate surrounding the pardon and ensure transparency in the matter. The AGC's statement emphasizes the importance of upholding the integrity of the legal and constitutional processes in Malaysia.
