Kuala Lumpur Cracks Down on Illegal Accommodations: 13 Arrested in Major Raid Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – In a significant crackdown on illegal accommodations, Malaysian authorities arrested 13 foreign nationals operating unlicensed guesthouses in the city. The raid, conducted on Tuesday, involved officers from the Department of Immigration Malaysia (JIM). The operation, which followed a two-week investigation, uncovered a network of illegal lodging facilities catering to foreign workers. According to Ismail Mukhtar, Deputy Director General of JIM, "The operation was the result of a two-week investigation involving officers from the special investigation and operations division." The raid yielded a significant amount of evidence, including cash (74,000 Malaysian Ringgit and 2,160 US dollars), passports, and rental agreements. Six of the detainees possessed temporary work permits, while the others lacked proper documentation. They face charges under Section 6(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. The operation underscores the commitment of Malaysian authorities to combat illegal activities and ensure compliance with immigration laws.
