"It was a heartbreaking sight," said Lukian Siong, director of the Terengganu Wildlife and National Parks Department. "The mother elephant's loyalty and patience were remarkable." Authorities responded quickly after receiving information about the incident on Thursday afternoon. A six-member team was dispatched to the scene in a palm oil plantation near Felda Neram Dua, Kemaman. The calf was successfully freed from the snare, and thankfully, suffered no serious injuries.
