
16 Dead, 33 Injured in Tragic Malaysian Bus Crash
A bus crash in Malaysia claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students and a bus assistant on June 9, 2025. The majority of the victims were students from Terengganu state, returning to campus after the Eid al-Adha holidays. The accident occurred around 1:10 AM at KM43 of the East-West Highway. The bus reportedly lost control. "The state government is committed to providing immediate and comprehensive support to the affected families," said Datuk Safrul Bahari Mohamad, Chairman of the Terengganu State Committee on Higher Education, Science, Technology and Human Development. The support includes financial assistance, counselling, and psychosocial support. Twenty-nine injured students are receiving treatment at Hospital Gerik, while four others are in Hospital Baling. The accident is a significant tragedy for the families, the university, and the nation. The government's swift response underscores its commitment to the well-being of its citizens.
