Gerik Bus Crash Claims 15 Lives, Family of Four Stable A tragic bus accident near Gerik, Perak, Malaysia, early this morning has claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students. The accident occurred on the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding. However, amidst the tragedy, a family of four, traveling in a Perodua Alza, survived the crash. According to the Kedah State Health Department, the family—including the driver, Mohamad Lufti Razif (37), his wife Nurul Ain Zakaria (36), and their two young children—were all injured but are now in stable condition at Hospital Baling. Mohamad Lufti, who sustained only minor injuries, has already been discharged. His wife and children remain under observation. Perak Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri stated in a press conference that the bus, carrying UPSI students, rear-ended the family's car. "The initial investigation suggests the bus collided with the Alza while both vehicles were traveling in the same direction towards Gerik," he explained. Images circulating on social media show the extent of the damage to both vehicles. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and careful driving. While the loss of 15 young lives is deeply saddening, the survival of the family offers a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy.
