13 UPSI Students Killed in Highway Accident: Heartbreaking Convoy to Terengganu
IPOH, Perak – A somber procession took place last night as 13 coffins carrying the remains of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students departed from Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh. The students tragically lost their lives in a road accident on the East-West Highway (JRTB) in Jeli-Gerik earlier that morning. The convoy, escorted by police, made its way towards Terengganu, a journey expected to last about an hour and a half. Family members and friends of the deceased lined the streets, their grief palpable. "It was a very emotional scene," said one eyewitness, "the silence was broken only by the occasional sob." The procession is a testament to the tragedy and the community's support for the grieving families. The coffins were taken to Masjid Hadhari in Bandar Jerteh, Besut, Terengganu for prayers before burial. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety.
