
15 Students Dead in Horrific Malaysian Bus Crash
Fifteen students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) tragically lost their lives in a bus accident on Monday, June 9, 2025, near Tasik Banding, Gerik, Perak, Malaysia. The accident occurred at kilometer 53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB). According to Perak Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd. Yusri Hassan Basri, police have already recorded statements from 18 people, including 13 UPSI students, the driver's spouse, a forensic doctor from Gerik Hospital, and dashcam footage owners. However, the bus driver's statement is still pending as he remains hospitalized in Taiping. "We are waiting for the bus driver to be discharged from the hospital before taking his statement," said Datuk Seri Mohd. Yusri. The investigation is a collaborative effort involving multiple agencies, including the Road Safety Research Institute of Malaysia (MIROS), the Chemistry Department, and the Air Force. The damaged bus has been sent for analysis. This tragic accident underscores the importance of road safety and serves as a reminder of the fragility of life.
