Stay-at-Home Mother Challenges Societal Views on Summer Camps and Unpaid Labor
A Spanish mother, known as "Mami de tres," has sparked discussion online after sharing her perspective on the challenges faced by stay-at-home parents, particularly regarding the use of summer camps for their children. In a recent video, the mother, who has three children, addressed criticisms she has received for enrolling her kids in summer programs. She stated, "The only reason I'm judged for sending my children to summer camp is because I am a stay-at-home mom and I am in my house." She contrasted this with a hypothetical scenario: "If I had a traditional job where I had to leave my home and work eight hours, and I had a boss, it would seem fantastic to you." The mother emphasized that being a stay-at-home parent is a demanding job, even if it is not formally recognized or is "invisible to many people." She highlighted the necessity of summer camps for her family's well-being, explaining that having three children at home can make it impossible to fulfill other obligations. "The camp is very good for them, it's very good for me, and it's very good for my husband," she explained, calling it "a tool to balance family well-being." She concluded by suggesting that the criticism stems not from the concept of summer camp itself, but from the societal discomfort with her working from home and advocating for the value of her role as a stay-at-home parent.
