In a recent online video, content creator Manu Villalobos presented a unique cultural comparison, suggesting that Balkan people, particularly those from Mexico, share surprising similarities with Latinos. Villalobos outlined four key points to support his observation. Firstly, he highlighted a shared affinity for drama, drawing parallels between Balkan culture and the widespread popularity of Mexican telenovelas. "They love drama, which probably they learned from our telenovelas during Yugoslavia time," Villalobos stated, noting their extensive viewership and language familiarity. Secondly, Villalobos pointed to the strong grilling culture prevalent in the Balkans. "They love grilling, they grill everything," he explained, emphasizing that it's not just about cooking but the communal culture surrounding it, involving family, friends, and drinks. He likened this to the "carne asada culture" found in northern Mexico. Thirdly, the video touched upon the existence of a Balkan music genre known as Yu-Mex, which Villalobos described as akin to mariachi music in Serbo-Croatian, calling it "just fantastic." Finally, Villalobos noted the use of "magic powders" for cooking, specifically mentioning Vegeta in the Balkans and comparing it to Knorr Suiza in Mexico. He expressed surprise at how close the cultures appear in this regard. Villalobos concluded by revealing a personal connection, stating, "part of my family is Balkan," underscoring his appreciation for the culture.
