UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria has shed light on the ongoing efforts to bring a major UFC event to Spain, a long-held ambition for the fighter. Speaking at a recent press conference, Topuria confirmed that negotiations with the UFC are underway for a new deal, with a key point of contention being the event's scheduling. "The only thing I know is that they are negotiating a new deal," Topuria stated. "What they want to include in that deal is that when they bring an event to Europe, it should be during European prime time, and not have to be during United States prime time, so they can schedule it here." Topuria emphasized that the prime-time issue has been the "biggest problem" preventing a UFC event in Spain. He explained that holding an event during US prime time would mean fights starting at 4 or 5 AM in Spain, which he believes would not allow fans to fully enjoy the experience. "I don't think anyone would have enjoyed the event at its maximum quality," he added. Despite the delays, Topuria remains resolute in his goal. "I've had to wait," he acknowledged, "but I'm not going to retire from the sport without competing in Spain." His comments underscore his commitment to his Spanish fanbase and his desire to deliver a top-tier UFC experience on home soil.
