Fans Come to Kelsea Ballerini’s Defense Over Surprise CMA Awards Decision
With the CMA Awards releasing its list of nominees, fans were outraged that Kelsea Ballerini was snubbed for Entertainer of the Year.
A social media user, Mary Shea, has recently shared her detailed opinions on the 2025 Country Music Association (CMA) award nominations, sparking discussion among country music fans. In a video uploaded from the United States, Shea voiced her disappointment regarding several key categories. Her most prominent critique centered on the Entertainer of the Year category, where she felt artist Kelsea Ballerini was notably absent from the nominations. Shea highlighted Ballerini's prolific year, including a new album, extensive touring, acting roles, and a coaching position on "The Voice," arguing that these achievements should have secured her a spot on the list. She expressed frustration that other artists, whom she believes have been less active in terms of new music and touring, received nominations instead. Moving to the Male Artist category, Shea identified Riley Green as a significant snub, citing his successful year and strong representation of country music. For Song, Single, and Musical Event of the Year, she pointed out the omission of Russell Dickerson's "Happened To Me," which she described as having a "huge moment." She also advocated for Cameron Marlowe's album "Sad Songs for the Soul" and Jelly Roll, suggesting they were overlooked in the Album and Male Artist categories, respectively. Shea further questioned the criteria for the "New Artist" category, noting that some nominees, like Ella, seem already well-established. She proposed other artists such as Hudson Westbrook, Vincent Mason, Carter Faith, Nate Smith, and Emily Ann Roberts as deserving candidates for recognition, praising their talent and contributions to country music. Shea concluded by acknowledging the difficulty of the nomination process but expressed a desire for more variety and less predictability in the selections.
