The series is a spin-off from the previously acclaimed political thriller, "Kudeta." During the launch event, scriptwriter Syakir 'Mo' Zakii highlighted the distinct nature of "Honey Trap" compared to its predecessor. "Kudeta was a political thriller, political drama. But we have shifted away from that narrative," he stated. Director Imran Sheik elaborated on the creative process, emphasizing the show's unique approach to storytelling. "The process was in the writers' room where all writers discussed. We want the DNA of the show where people keep guessing what happens next," Imran explained.
