Water Park Fined After Girl's Unlawful Killing
Eleven-year-old Kyra Hill's death at Liquid Leisure water park has been ruled an unlawful killing by a coroner. The incident occurred in August 2022, when Kyra, described by her father Leonard Hill as a "remarkably strong swimmer," got into difficulty in a designated swimming area. It took nearly two hours to recover her body, partly due to poor visibility in the lake. Liquid Leisure was fined £80,000 for health and safety breaches, including the lack of adequate signage warning of the water's depth (up to 4.5 meters in some areas). Mr. Hill is now campaigning for improved safety measures at water parks across the UK, stating, "We need to see water parks being regulated, including risk assessments for missing persons in water, to prevent more deaths." The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the importance of robust safety protocols at recreational water venues.
