Vegan Diet Leads to Child's Death, Parents Sentenced to Decades in Prison
A three-year-old boy, Abiyah Yasharahyalah, tragically died in early 2020 from severe malnourishment, a condition worsened by a respiratory illness. His parents, Tai and Naiyahmi, adhered to an extreme vegan diet, neglecting to provide necessary supplements. This resulted in Abiyah suffering from rickets, anemia, and stunted growth. A review later revealed that Abiyah was "invisible" to child services. His body was discovered buried in the family's garden in 2022. The parents were subsequently found guilty and received lengthy prison sentences; 24 and a half years for one parent and 19 and a half years for the other. This heartbreaking case highlights the critical need for vigilance in child welfare and the devastating consequences of neglecting a child's nutritional needs. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of seeking professional medical advice and ensuring children receive proper care and nutrition.
