Milan Street Transformed into Colorful Pedestrian Paradise
Milan's Via Savare Transformed: A Colorful Success Story Via Savare, a street in Milan, Italy, has undergone a remarkable transformation thanks to a European Union-funded project. The initiative, part of the Horizon 2020 program, aimed to pedestrianize the area, creating a safer and more welcoming environment for residents and children. The results are visually striking, with the street now adorned with colorful designs and ample space for pedestrians. Anastasia Kucherova, Vice President of the Genitori Association, a local parents' group, explains, "Two years ago, we were tired of the traffic in front of the school. We decided to participate in the "Open Squares" initiative and proposed the streets around Leonardo da Vinci High School for pedestrianization." The project has been a resounding success, creating a space where children can play safely and the community can gather. Marco Persico from Urbanome, a project partner, adds, "Urbanome is monitoring the impact, including environmental and acoustic factors, through sensors. We're also using questionnaires to assess the psychosocial effects of the changes." The post-intervention monitoring phase is currently underway, further demonstrating the project's commitment to long-term sustainability. The success of Via Savare's transformation offers a promising example of how urban planning can improve the quality of life for communities and children. It's a testament to collaborative efforts and innovative solutions for creating vibrant, pedestrian-friendly urban spaces.
