Mexico City Teachers Defy Government, Strike Continues
Mexico City Teachers' Strike Continues After Failed Negotiations Mexico City – Members of the CNTE teachers' union have announced they will continue their strike after a four-hour meeting with government officials from the Segob, ISSSTE, and SHCP ended without an agreement. The union, which has been on strike for 19 days, expressed their frustration over the lack of response to their demands. The meeting, which took place at the Secretariat of the Interior, concluded around 5:00 pm on June 3, 2025. Following the meeting, union representatives held a press conference outside the building, where they stated their intention to continue the strike and move their protest to the Zócalo. Eva Hinojosa Tera, secretary of Section 18, stated, "It's a mockery on the part of the government that they engage in this plan of deaf ears. We presented our demands, and there was no response." The CNTE's continued strike highlights the ongoing tension between the union and the Mexican government over education reform. The union's determination to persist in their protest signals a prolonged conflict ahead.
