Eyewitness Recounts Tragic El Capitan Climbing Accident in Yosemite

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK – A recent climbing incident at El Capitan in Yosemite National Park has drawn significant attention, with a witness providing a detailed account to clarify circulating reports. Eric, a self-proclaimed Yosemite enthusiast, had been live-streaming climbers on the iconic rock face for several days, including Balin Miller, the climber involved in the tragic event. According to Eric, who was observing climbers with a long-range scope, Miller had been making his final ascent on Wednesday morning. "It looked like he was going to summit on Wednesday morning," Eric stated in his video, describing how he and hundreds of other viewers were cheering for Miller's success. After reaching the summit, Miller reportedly anchored in, then descended to retrieve his bag, which had swung to the right and become caught on a ledge. Eric recounted the climber's struggle: "It looked like he was really getting frustrated with the fact that it was caught on this ledge." Following this, Miller began to rappel down, seemingly in an attempt to free his gear. "We then saw him rappel off the end of his rope," Eric stated, expressing his shock. "I couldn't believe it. I was in absolute shock." Other climbers near the base of El Capitan also witnessed the incident and called 911. Search and rescue teams responded, and a helicopter retrieved Miller approximately 20 minutes later. Eric, deeply affected by the incident, concluded his live-streaming, stating, "I was unable to continue watching. I started to cry. I drove away." He urged the public to honor Balin Miller's legacy and respect his passion for climbing.
