California Sues Trump, Seeks to Block Troop Deployment in L.A.
California Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta have filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, seeking an emergency court order to block the use of US troops in Los Angeles. The lawsuit alleges that the deployment of troops is a violation of Trump's statutory authority and the Constitution. "What they're afraid of," explains Lisa Rubin, NBC News legal correspondent, "is that the military, as Trump and Hegseth have described it in their public comments, will end up being a part of immigration enforcement in L.A." The state argues that the use of troops should be strictly limited to protecting federal property and personnel. The court is expected to rule on the matter by 1 p.m. Pacific time. This legal challenge highlights the ongoing tensions between state and federal governments over the use of military forces within state boundaries.
