In a powerful display of community activism, residents of Milford, Massachusetts, and Kennet, Missouri, successfully fought back against Trump administration immigration actions. The cases of high school junior Marcelo, waitress Carol, and a four-year-old girl, all facing deportation, galvanized their communities. In Milford, students and teachers marched to Town Hall, protesting Marcelo’s unjust detention. In Kennet, the staff at John’s Waffle and Pancake House organized a "Carol Day" fundraiser, raising $20,000. Rachel Maddow, of "The Rachel Maddow Show," commented on the power of protest: "The way we will find out whether or not it’s going to work is not going to be something that happens in the White House… It’s going to be something that happens in the streets…"
