
Last Farewell to WWII Veteran in North Kazakhstan
Petropavl, Kazakhstan – A solemn farewell ceremony was held today for Vasily Makienko, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), who passed away on May 16th. The ceremony, held in Petropavl, North Kazakhstan, drew a large crowd including family, friends, government officials, and local citizens. Deputy Akim of the North Kazakhstan region, Zhusup Zhumagulov, offered condolences on behalf of the regional head. Among the speakers was the veteran's granddaughter, Olesya Choly, who shared heartfelt words about her grandfather's life: "It's very difficult. I thank everyone. Our grandfather was a wonderful person, he loved everyone, he tried to reconcile everyone," she said, her voice choked with emotion. Makienko, who celebrated his 99th birthday just months before his passing, was remembered for his sharp mind, warm heart, and active lifestyle.
