
Kazakhstan's National Asyk Atu Championship: A Celebration of Tradition and Skill
Petropavlovsk Hosts Kazakhstan's National Asyk Atu and Bes Asyq Championship Petropavlovsk, North Kazakhstan Region – From June 9th to 13th, 2025, Petropavlovsk hosted the Republic of Kazakhstan's national championship in the traditional sports of 'asyk atu' (single-bone game) and 'bes asyq' (five-bone game). Nineteen teams from across the country, excluding East Kazakhstan, participated in this significant event showcasing Kazakhstan's rich cultural heritage. The opening ceremony was a vibrant display of national pride, with athletes from various regions proudly representing their homelands. The atmosphere was electric, filled with anticipation and excitement for the competitions to begin. A senior coach from the North Kazakhstan region, Aghzhan Suraganov, was awarded the "Asyk atu sportynyng kayratkeri" medal, a testament to his dedication to promoting these traditional sports. Among the notable participants were two champion female athletes representing North Kazakhstan: Saniya Asker, a winner of the V World Nomad Games, and Kamila Seksembay, the 2024 World Cup champion. Their presence added a layer of prestige and excitement to the competition. "This championship is more than just a tournament; it's a celebration of our national identity and traditions," stated one of the organizers. The closing ceremony will see the winners rewarded with cups, medals, and certificates of recognition. This event successfully promoted Kazakh culture and national unity.
