Mexico City Landmark Re-illuminated: Torres de Satélite Sparkle Again
Torres de Satélite Shine Again After Years of Darkness Naucalpan, Edomex, Mexico – A beloved landmark in Naucalpan has been restored to its former glory. The Torres de Satélite, iconic structures in the Valley of Mexico, have been illuminated once again after years of darkness due to economic constraints. The Dirección de Servicios Públicos de Naucalpan recently completed a project to replace the towers' outdated incandescent lighting with energy-efficient LED technology. This upgrade not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the towers but also addresses safety concerns for drivers and pedestrians in the area. "Antes no tenían iluminación. Pasabas en la noche y no se notaba," says Paola Olguín, a Naucalpan resident, highlighting the previous lack of illumination. The new lighting has transformed the nighttime view, making the towers a focal point once more. Gabriela, another local, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "¡Ay, se ven muy bonitas! La verdad es bonito cruzar el puente y quedarte un ratito viendo las Torres." Her words reflect the widespread joy felt by the community. The project involved replacing not only the lights but also the control panels and parts of the electrical installation. The towers, designed by Luis Barragán and Mathias Goeritz in 1958, stand as a testament to mid-century modern architecture. Their renewed illumination is a symbol of community revitalization and a renewed appreciation for this remarkable piece of Mexican heritage.
