Kenyan Woman Explains Why She Won't Join Street Protests
A Kenyan woman, Ntazola Gloria, has publicly stated her reasons for choosing not to participate in street protests, emphasizing personal safety and alternative forms of activism. In a recent video, Gloria explained, "Mimi Nikisema sitaki kwenda streets, I have reasons," translating to "When I say I don't want to go to the streets, I have reasons." She recounted a traumatic experience from a previous demonstration where someone was killed "a few minutes away from me," leading to her decision to avoid such risks. Gloria stressed that there are "better ways to catch a fish without going inside the lake or the ocean," advocating for different strategies to achieve goals without endangering lives. She also criticized those who pressure or "attack" online personalities, including influencers, for their level of participation, stating that many have already used their platforms to raise awareness through their stories. Gloria clarified that she uses her platform primarily for business and is not an influencer, urging people not to "confuse the two." She concluded by stating, "We can't keep dying; we need to stay alive."
