Released From Jail, Attacker Spotted Near Victim's Home
San Jose Family Outraged After Son's Attacker Released From Jail San Jose, CA – A San Jose family is grappling with anger and fear after a homeless man who assaulted their 15-year-old son, Tyler Kintz, was released from jail less than 24 hours later. The incident occurred Friday morning in front of a bakery on Alum Rock Avenue. Tyler's 12-year-old brother, Dylan, later spotted the suspect, leading to his re-arrest. "He just sucker punched me as hard as he could," Tyler recounted, visibly shaken. The attacker also used a homophobic slur. Tyler's mother, Michelle Martinez, suffered a black eye when Tyler fell into her after the attack. She expressed deep concern for her son's safety and the safety of other children in the community. "I'm terrified. What if he does it again?" she said, her voice filled with emotion. Mayor Matt Mahan met with the family to discuss the situation. He stated, "If you attack a 15-year-old on his way to school, you shouldn't be back on the streets 24 hours later." Mahan is advocating for increased secure treatment options for the homeless and a policy to prevent similar incidents.
