Massachusetts High School Student Detained by ICE on Way to Volleyball Practice Milford, MA – June 3, 2025 – An 18-year-old junior at Milford High School was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on Saturday morning, June 1st, while en route to volleyball practice. The unexpected detainment has sparked outrage and concern within the Milford community, leading to a demonstration outside the school. The student's volleyball coach, Andrew Mainini, described the shock of receiving a text message before 8:30 AM, informing him that ICE had taken one of his players. "I was sitting there thinking, this can't be happening," Mainini stated, adding, "It's one thing to see things happening in the world, and it's another thing to have them directly impact the people that you work with and care for on a daily basis." The coach also noted that ICE agents released two other underage students who were in the car. A fellow student, interviewed at the community rally, expressed his feelings: "Honestly, I'm feeling fed up. Kind of really upset that this happened to somebody that is so well loved by our community. Somebody that would never do anything of the wrong." The rally showed a significant outpouring of support for the detained student. Milford Police Chief confirmed awareness of the situation and is investigating, but emphasized that the police department was not involved in the detention. The incident underscores the emotional impact of immigration enforcement on local communities and the lives of young people.
