Manhattan, New York - An 87-year-old Manhattan resident, Larry Schwartz, a seasoned weightlifter and amateur boxer, successfully fended off an attempted robbery in a dramatic encounter captured on surveillance footage. The incident, which also involved his companion Joanna Cuccia, unfolded when two individuals in a car approached them, feigning a need for directions to a Walmart.According to Ms. Cuccia, "I turned around and I said, well, welcome to New York. Where do you want to go? He said, we want directions to Walmart. So I said, there are no Walmarts in Manhattan." She further recounted, "And she took my hands, pulled me toward her."Mr. Schwartz described the moment the female assailant targeted his watch: "She's putting her hand on my Rolex, which is not a good thing to do for me. My immediate reaction was hostile. This is crap. Pulled it towards me and I twisted it. I pulled her again. You know, I gave her a three, what we call a three-quarter twist." He attributed his quick response to his lifelong dedication to physical fitness, stating, "I've been lifting weights since I'm 14 years old. And I don't just lift weights, I mean, I also boxed amateur."Both Schwartz and Cuccia believe the perpetrators intended to replace his genuine Rolex with a counterfeit watch they had in their vehicle. Following the foiled attempt, the victims reported the incident to the 13th precinct, where they spent several hours providing their statements. The New York Police Department has not yet released further details regarding the suspects or any arrests.
