GUANGZHOU, China – Travelers in southern China, including a vlogger, have found themselves unexpectedly stranded following the landfall of Super Typhoon Ragasa, described as the most powerful storm of 2025. The typhoon led to widespread flight cancellations and airport closures across major hubs like Hong Kong and Guangzhou, disrupting travel plans for thousands. One traveler, who shared her experience in a recent video, recounted a series of unfortunate events that left her and her companion stuck. Initially, they missed a flight due to a date oversight. After rebooking for the following day, those flights were subsequently canceled as Typhoon Ragasa intensified, forcing the closure of airports in the region. "We didn't know a huge typhoon was coming," she stated, explaining the sudden shift in their travel plans. The storm's impact was severe, particularly in southern China and Taiwan, where reports indicated significant flooding, property damage, and over 14 fatalities, with dozens more missing. Despite the chaos outside, the vlogger noted that their temporary accommodation provided unexpected comfort. "We're in a bigger room, we have a sauna, gym, pool, shops, and a restaurant," she shared, highlighting the resources available within their hotel complex. "It's quite spacious." While acknowledging the financial strain of rebooked tickets and extended stays, she maintained a pragmatic outlook, stating, "If it can be paid for, it's not expensive." The incident underscores the unpredictable nature of severe weather events and their far-reaching consequences on global travel and local communities.
