Philippines Election Update: Vote Count Continues, Random Audit Underway
Manila, Philippines – May 14, 2025 – The National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) is diligently working to finalize the count and announce the winners of the recent Philippine elections. A crucial part of this process, the random manual audit of ballots, commenced today, adding a layer of transparency and verification. Comelec has set an ambitious target of canvassing 100 Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) today. News5’s JC Cosico, reporting live from the canvassing center, stated, "Past 1:30 PM, the NBOC resumed session, continuing the vote count for national positions." He further explained that while 100 COCs are targeted for today, the complete canvassing of 10075 COCs is expected to finish by the weekend, leading to the expected proclamation of winning senators and party-list groups. The Comelec's commitment to transparency is evident in this process. However, the possibility of a manual recount remains, contingent upon legal challenges and sufficient funding, as explained by Cosico. This ongoing process underscores the importance of accurate vote counting and the democratic process in the Philippines.
