Philippines Faces Extreme Heat and Rain on May 28, 2025
MANILA, Philippines – Filipinos woke up to a mixed bag of weather conditions on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. According to a report by News5's resident meteorologist Tito Alvin Pura, several areas in the country experienced extreme heat, while others faced the threat of rain. "We are monitoring a low-pressure area outside our area of responsibility," Pura explained in the News5 video report. This system is expected to trigger the southwest monsoon, bringing rain to parts of Mindanao, particularly Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. The Western Visayas region, including Mimaropa, is also expected to experience rain due to wind flow towards the low-pressure area. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other areas experienced high heat index values, with temperatures reaching up to 44°C in some places. Pura advised viewers to stay prepared for sudden downpours and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening. The video offers hourly rain chance forecasts for key cities, highlighting the potential for heavy rainfall in certain regions throughout the day.
