Quezon City Cable Theft Leads to Arrest of Repeat Offenders Quezon City, Philippines – Two men were arrested on May 29, 2025, for attempting to steal cables from a manhole in the city. The incident, captured on video, shows barangay officials apprehending the suspects after a resident alerted them to suspicious activity near a manhole on Visayas Avenue. "We received a call about the manhole cover moving," explained a barangay official. "When we arrived, we saw two men emerging from the manhole with a large amount of cable wire." Police recovered more than 17 meters of cable wire, valued at 170,000 pesos, along with a hacksaw and chain. According to P/Lt. Col. Jose Luis Aguirre, Commander of the Holy Spirit Police Station, both suspects have prior arrests for similar crimes and drug-related offenses. Despite their denials, evidence strongly suggests their guilt. The suspects are currently being held at the Holy Spirit Police Station.
