EDSA Rebuild Postponed: DPWH to Re-evaluate Plans
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Philippines announced today that the planned EDSA rebuild, previously scheduled to begin on June 13th, has been postponed. The decision follows President Bongbong Marcos' order to re-evaluate the project. DPWH Secretary Manny Bonoan stated, "We'll go back to our drawing boards and see how fast we can improve or accelerate the implementation of the EDSA rebuild." The Secretary cited the age of the existing pavement, stating, "EDSA is more than 50 years old, and the existing pavement there is on the verge of deterioration." Bonoan explained that a one-month review period is necessary to incorporate new technologies and optimize the project timeline. He anticipates the project, once resumed, will take two years to complete. The postponement aims to ensure a more efficient and effective rebuild, minimizing disruption to the public. The video also shows footage of the heavy traffic congestion on EDSA, highlighting the urgency of the road improvements.
