Ghanaian Retired Nurses Protest Inadequate Benefits and Healthcare
Ghanaian Retired Nurses and Midwives Stage Protest Over Benefits and Healthcare Retired nurses and midwives in Ghana are intensifying their protest over what they describe as inadequate retirement benefits and insufficient healthcare provisions. The demonstration, taking place across the country, has gained momentum in recent weeks. David Tenkorang, the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), stated, "Retired nurses and midwives are more angry than us." He emphasized the severity of their situation, highlighting health issues stemming from their years of service and the financial struggles they now face. The protesters are demanding better retirement packages that can adequately cover their medical expenses and daily living costs. Many are dealing with occupational-related illnesses that their current pensions are insufficient to address. One retired nurse, who wished to remain anonymous, shared her story, expressing frustration at the government's lack of support. The GRNMA is calling for urgent government intervention to address the plight of these dedicated healthcare professionals who have served the nation for many years. The government is currently reviewing the concerns raised by the GRNMA and is expected to make an announcement soon.
