Weltweit erster orangefarbener Hai gesichtet – ist er echt?
Eine echte Sensation vor der Küste Costa Ricas: Sportangler fingen einen orangefarbenen Ammenhai – ein bislang einzigartiger Fund.
TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK, COSTA RICA – A groundbreaking discovery has been made in the waters off Costa Rica, where a rare bright orange nurse shark, exhibiting a unique combination of xanthism and suspected albinism, was spotted for the first time. The unusual marine creature was found at a depth of 37 meters near Tortuguero National Park and subsequently released. Scientists have identified its striking yellow-orange coloration as a manifestation of xanthism, a rare pigmentation condition characterized by an excess of yellow pigment and a deficiency of red. This marks the first documented case of xanthism in the nurse shark species and the first record of any species with the condition in the Caribbean Sea. Further examination revealed the shark's eyes were "pasty white with no visible irises," leading researchers to believe it also suffers from albinism. While some experts suggest that animals with such genetic variations often face reduced survival rates due to a lack of natural camouflage, the scientific team involved in the discovery remains optimistic about this individual's future. "We don’t believe the genetic variations will have any impact on the shark’s lifespan since it has already reached adulthood," stated one scientist, emphasizing the shark's apparent resilience despite its distinctive appearance. The discovery underscores the incredible biodiversity of marine ecosystems and the ongoing potential for uncovering unique life forms.
