Ukraine War's Devastating Toll on Children: UN Official Shares Heartbreaking Statistics
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has had a devastating impact on children. According to Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary General, more than 5.1 million children have been displaced from their homes. She shared "heartbreaking" statistics during a recent address, stating that one in five children has lost a relative or friend since 2022. The fate of Ukrainian children reportedly deported to Russia remains a major concern. DiCarlo also noted that since February 2022, at least 13,279 civilians, including 707 children, have been killed, and 32,449, including 2068 children, have been injured. These figures highlight the urgent need for humanitarian aid and protection for children affected by the conflict. The UN continues to work towards ensuring the safety and well-being of all children caught in the crossfire.
