Millions in Child Support: The Argentinian Mother's Spending Spree and Legal Battle
A mother from Villa Mercedes, San Luis, Argentina, is at the center of a bizarre financial incident. Verónica Acosta, expecting a child support payment of 8,000 pesos, instead received 510 million pesos due to an administrative error. Within 48 hours, she spent 44 million pesos on various items, including two televisions, a refrigerator, a deep fryer, a microwave, a 2014-2015 Ford Ka, and groceries. "It was a mistake," Acosta stated in a recent interview, "I didn't know what to do." Authorities quickly investigated, leading to her arrest along with five others on charges of fraud and embezzlement. While the bank recovered most of the misdirected funds, the legal proceedings continue. Acosta's lawyer has appealed the charges, arguing that the bail amount is excessive and that Acosta has returned the purchased goods. The case highlights a significant administrative error and raises questions about financial oversight.
