From Street Dog to Therapy Hero: Simba's Inspiring Journey in Colombia
La Ceja, Antioquia, Colombia – Simba, a three-year-old black dog, has become an unlikely hero in the fight against mental health challenges. Rescued from the streets, Simba's unique appearance initially hindered his adoption prospects. However, his life took a heartwarming turn when he was adopted by Diana Botero Franco, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Clinica San Juan de Dios. "The idea of having him with me in the office was first because I adore animals, and I can testify to how positive it is," said Dr. Botero Franco. Simba now spends his days at the clinic, providing comfort and companionship to patients undergoing therapy. Andrés Gallego, the general director of the clinic, explained the importance of this animal-assisted therapy. "It's very important for us to have this type of therapy that has been scientifically proven," he stated. Simba's presence creates a more welcoming and therapeutic environment. Simba's story is a testament to the healing power of animals and the second chances they deserve. His journey from the streets to a cherished member of the clinic's therapeutic team is an inspiring example of the positive impact animals can have on human lives.
