Religious Leader Offers Guidance on Hair Dyeing and Faith Kyiv, Ukraine – In a recent online video, Father Oleksiy Filiuk, a prominent religious figure, addressed a widely pondered question among the faithful: whether dyeing one's hair constitutes a sin. Speaking directly to his audience, Father Filiuk articulated a nuanced perspective, asserting that the act of coloring hair, particularly to conceal graying, is not inherently sinful. "There is no sin in dyeing hair," Father Filiuk stated, emphasizing the importance of moderation in all aspects of life. He referenced the Apostle Paul, who said, "Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial." Father Filiuk elaborated on the concept of the human body as a "temple of the Holy Spirit," suggesting that while external adornment is permissible, true embellishment comes from "good deeds." He acknowledged that for many, especially women, dyeing hair can boost self-esteem and bring joy to their families, noting that factors like stress and war can contribute to premature graying. "If a woman dyes her hair to feel better, and her children and husband are pleased, there is no sin in that," he explained. However, he cautioned against extreme or unnatural colors, such as purple or green, deeming them "a bit unnatural" and potentially "over the top." He concluded by encouraging his followers to "be good and pleasing to God," adorning themselves primarily with good deeds, while also allowing for reasonable personal grooming.
