Cancer Survivor Chris Kirt Reveals Mental, Financial Toll 7 Months Post-Treatment
Seven months after undergoing surgery for bowel cancer, Chris Kirt, a survivor and advocate, shares a candid update on his recovery journey, highlighting the often-overlooked mental and financial challenges. Kirt, who had one-third of his bowel removed to cure his cancer, revealed that while physical healing progresses, the psychological toll, particularly 'scanxiety,' remains a significant hurdle. 'I'm constantly worrying if I have an ache or pain that it's something's come back,' Kirt stated in his video, describing a spiral of despair that often requires reassurance from his partner. Beyond the emotional burden, Kirt also spoke about the financial devastation cancer can inflict. 'I finally just about financially recovered from the absolute ruin cancer causes to your finances,' he shared. Despite these ongoing struggles, Kirt noted an improvement in his physical fitness, though not yet to pre-diagnosis levels. He emphasized the profound lessons learned over the past year, stating, 'I've probably learnt more than in the last 10.' His experience has led him to a more ruthless, yet less serious, approach to life, valuing every moment seven months post-treatment.
