GH¢280 Million Corruption Scandal: Criminal Charges to be Filed in NPA Case
Accra, Ghana – In a significant development in the fight against corruption, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced on May 30, 2025, that criminal charges will be filed in connection with a GH¢280 million scandal at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). The OSP investigation revealed a complex scheme involving high-ranking NPA officials who used threats and intimidation to obtain large sums of money from oil marketing companies. "Between 2022 and 2024, some high-ranking and other officials of NPA devised and implemented a corrupt scheme," said Mr. Agyebeng. The investigation uncovered GH¢280,127,019 in proceeds from this scheme, some of which was used to acquire properties both in Ghana and abroad. The OSP plans to file charges against the first batch of perpetrators and complicit oil marketing companies before the end of June. This case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat corruption in Ghana's petroleum sector and underscores the importance of transparency and accountability.
