Ghana Nurses' Strike Halts Healthcare at Major Hospital
Ghana Nurses' Strike Cripples Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital A strike by nurses at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana, brought healthcare services to a standstill on Monday, June 10, 2025. The nurses, members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), are protesting the delayed payment of book and research allowances, as well as pay renewals. "We've gone past negotiation," stated Prosper Kpobi, Korle-Bu District Chairman of the GRNMA, in an interview with Onua TV. "We are not negotiating anything at this stage. We are just asking for medical care for all health workers." The strike has had a significant impact on patients, particularly those requiring dialysis. Kojo Barfour Ahenkorah, President of the Renal Patients Association of Ghana, expressed concern about the situation. "The situation is very difficult for us," he said. "Many patients are suffering because of the strike." The government is yet to respond to the nurses' demands. The strike highlights the ongoing challenges faced by healthcare workers in Ghana.
