Bucharest, Romania – A representative from the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) party has publicly criticized the government's handling of military pension reform, following the withdrawal of a relevant bill from parliamentary discussion. The representative, speaking from her office in Parliament, highlighted significant disparities in the current pension system for military reservists. "Military reservists must be respected," the AUR representative stated, emphasizing the sacrifices made by generations of military personnel for the nation's freedom and security. She pointed out that many who retired in the early 2000s are now receiving "miserable" pensions, despite having dedicated their lives and careers to the country. In contrast, she noted that others, with lower ranks and less service, are now retiring with pensions three to four times larger. The representative asserted that the government, led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, has a duty to address these inequities. "The solutions are with you, the pen is with you," she declared, urging the government to find positive resolutions, particularly for the most disadvantaged retirees. She referenced a statement by Ionuț Moșteanu, indicating that military pensions would not be part of the next legislative package, which she believes can still be discussed and resolved within the coalition. She concluded by stating, "You cannot sacrifice people indefinitely." The AUR party calls for immediate action to rectify the injustices faced by military pensioners, stressing that the government has had multiple opportunities to correct the situation but has neglected it, relying on the military's discipline.
